WE-Heraeus Communication Program
Communication Program – Call for proposals 2008
Call for proposals 2008 of the Promotion Program of Communication of young scientists of the Wilhelm und Else Heraeus Stiftung and the Deutsche Physikalische Gesellschaft e.V.
Young generation scientists are one of the main target groups the activities of the Wilhelm und Else Heraeus Stiftung are addressed to. Therefore in 1989 the foundation together with the DPG established a program that gives young physicists in an early period of their scientific career (Diplom, Master or PhD thesis) the opportunity to present their own scientific results to a censorious audience. Within the frame of this program the active participation at the DPG Spring Conferences and at the conferences of the EPS and the IUPAP is financially granted. A necessary condition is that the conference takes place in Europe.
By individual grants young conference participants, who are getting no travel grants from their university or their scientific institution or who are getting only partly support, are enabled to visit the conferences in Germany. Entitled to make an application under the Communication Program are authors or co-authors of a conference contribution such as a lecture or a poster which has been submitted and was accepted by the administration of the appropriate scientific board of the DPG. Promotion is possible only for one participant per contribution. Exclusively DPG members in the fee categories E, A and 3 (in fee category 3: only Diploma, Master and PhD students) are being supported.
Guideline for application on grants for the participation in a DPG Spring Conference: Please first submit your scientific contribution. Submitting a contribution is possible only electronically at www.dpg-tagungen.de. After having received the confirmation receipt with the number of the conference contribution, you can apply for a grant under the communication program. At the time of the application you have to be member of the DPG and you will need to have your membership number at hand. Application is possible only electronically at www.weh.dpg-physik.de. Deadline for applications is January 20th, 2008. Applications coming in after this date can’t be taken into consideration. After you have entered the application data and after a formal check you will get a notice of arrival per email. You will be informed per email by the DPG Head Office about acceptance or refusal of your application at the latest at the end of January 2008 – thus in good time prior to the beginning of the conference. Responsible for processing the applications in the DPG Head Office is Ms. Conny Theodor ().
At the beginning of the conference you will get your conference passport at the Conference Office. Please confirm the length of your stay at the Conference Office prior to your departure. Then you can submit this confirmation directly at the Conference Office. Alternatively, you have the possibility to submit the confirmation of participation at the DPG Head Office, Hauptstr. 5, 53604 Bad Honnef until April 13th, 2008 at the latest. Please inform us on this occasion also about an alteration of your bank account if occurred in the meantime. Applications arriving late can’t be taken into consideration. Guidelines for funding: 20 Euro per overnight stay, 24 Euro daily allowance, 0.18 Euro for each distance kilometre (return) between conference location and university location, conference fee. Only travelling costs within Germany could be refunded. From the available subsidies and the grants requested from all participants in total a proportion is being calculated, which is limited to a maximum of 50 % of the stated costs. The respective grant will be transferred to the bank account given in the application. Applicants will get a summary of the payoff per email. In case that there is an additional reimbursement of costs by another institution the applicants already bind themselves in their application to inform the reimbursing institution about the extent of the reimbursement by the Wilhelm und Else Heraeus Communication Program of the DPG.
Grants for the participation in EPS and IUPAP conferences are given only for travels within Europe. A precondition for successful application is an accepted scientific contribution (talk or poster) (please attach a copy of the confirmation to the application). Applications can be submitted in written form at the DPG Head Office until six weeks prior to the beginning of the conference. Please find detailed information at www.dpg-physik.de/veranstaltungen/internat.html. You can download the form at www.dpg-physik.de/veranstaltungen/weh_antrag.pdf. If you apply for a grant for the participation in EPS or IUPAP conferences you will always get a feedback from the DPG Head Office.
The Deutsche Physikalische Gesellschaft wants to express its thanks and gratitude for the generous support and assistance of young scientists by the Wilhelm und Else Heraeus-Stiftung. We hope that young physicists will continue to take the chance to communicate with scientists at the conferences – as already 14.000 young scientists have done before.
