Max-Planck Symposia

On the occasion of Max Planck's 150th birthday, a commemorative event with invited speakers will be held in lecture theatre H 0105 (Audimax) on Wednesday, Februar 27th, from 2.30 to 6.30 pm.

Max Planck was born 150 years ago, in an era where physics seemed to completely understood in its entirety as a natural science. By the end of his lifetime, physics had undergone fundamental changes in almost all its principles, and he himself had made decisive contributions to this. Max Planck's life of research stands for the permanence of science's efforts to achieve knowledge and better understanding.

For this reason, the Deutsche Physikalische Gesellschaft is organising a public symposium on the occasion of Max Planck's 150th birthday, which with easily comprehensible individual accounts can contribute towards gaining a compact picture of current physics, modern physics, as well as looking to the future.

The event is intended for all conference participants, particularly the younger ones.

In focus: Modern physics

Opening and introduction – Knut Urban, Jülich Research Centre, Vice-President of the DPG

End

„No matter how far humans progress in their scientific understanding, they will always remain marvelling children in the face of the infinite wealth and continual change within nature, and will always have to be ready for new surprises.“ (Max Planck)
